To see what you have learned
about Tornadoes and technology complete the following task:
Answer the four
questions using detailed paragraph answers. (Who knows you could get a question
like this in the exam!)
• Why is it so important to be able to accurately predict tornadoes?
• What are some of the problems researchers face when trying to predict
tornadoes? Why is it so difficult?
• What are some of the technologies that have been used to track storms and
predict tornadoes? Which ones were unsuccessful, and why? Which technologies do
scientists think are going to prove most useful in the future?
• What have researchers
learned about tornadoes so far, and what do they hope to learn in the future?
How will technology help?

1. It gives the public more time to get prepared for the tornado.
ReplyDelete2. They don't have the exact details of when and where the tornado is going to move and it is extremely hard to get the funnel over the devices that they use. A quote I found from a storm chaser, Tim Samara "Twisters don't tend to stick to main roads or predictable paths. It is a battle to be in the right place at the right time".
3. A device called a Weather probe gives vital data to storm chasers. This weather probe (nick name turtle) created by Tim Samara is the future in the predictability of tornadoes. The weather probe is a cone like shape which has technology built inside it that can measure the tornadoes wind speed, humidity, direction and barometric pressure.
4. They have learned how tornadoes form, they have little information on when and where the tornado is going to change direction and storm predictors can only predict storms late and only give the public a few minutes to evacuate or get undercover. Storm chasers are doing all they can to help raise the time people have to get under cover. The tool they use is the Weather probe. It gives them all the information the storm predictors need to speed up the process of predicting the tornado.
1) so it can help other people be save and prepare for the upcoming tornado. if researchers can figure out how to predict the tornado, this is valid information to save lives. The information can be used to alert people before a tornado strikes, so the people in the path of said tornado will not be shocked when it appears and they can't escape.
ReplyDelete2) it is hard to calculate how the tornado is going to act, it may not always go in one direction. The tornado is also hard to predict because it's just wind at first, and it will turn into a tornado within minutes, alerting people would be almost impossible and will appear out of nowhere. killing innocent people and destroying property.
3) In the United States, two government agencies located in the heart of hurricane country provide research and timely guidance concerning hazardous weather. The National Severe Storms Laboratory conducts long-term research. The Storm Prediction Centre, working with National Weather Service field offices around the country, offers short-term predictions and other guidance for those in the way of harm when the wind starts spinning.
4) they learned how tornadoes can form and help prevent it. helping others prepare for an upcoming tornado. The technology can be used to see the inside of a tornado.
1) People would get more warning if there is a tornado. Thus, not risking lives and allowing people to evacuate the area.
ReplyDelete2)The Tornado could suddenly move into another direction, This could make bystanders at risk
3)There are NEXRAD and Doppler, both are successful and they can definitely be improved in the future
4)They know how they form, where they form most and Technologies that can help understand Tornadoes more.

1. It is very important to be able accurately predict tornados because they are very dangerous and you don’t have much time to get into a safe place.
ReplyDelete2. The researchers cannot get very close to the tornado. And they do not know where the tornado is going to start.
3. There is a thing called a weather probe that measures the tornadoes wind speed, humidity, direction and barometric pressure

1. Because tornados cause deaths and with more time to make a runner there will be not as much people die.
2. beacause tornados form friken fast and they are yet to come up with tecnolagy to predict them faster
3.the Weather probe gives data to storm chasers. This weather probe called the turtle is the future in the predictability of tornadoes. The weather probe is a cone shape which has stuff built inside it that can measure the tornadoes wind speed and other stuff.
4. they know how tornados are formed but they know little about anything else. newer technology will help as this will help us predict tornados. reece stackhouse

ReplyDelete2. it is really hard to predict tornadoes tht is why scientist and reasurchers have to have the best eqiuipment and thinhgs.
3. the is probes and dopplers used to track tornadoes
4. they no how tornadoes form and how they can prevent it and you can understand it and they and new tecnology maybe to prvent it.
1. It will warn the public and give them more time to get prepared for the tornado.
ReplyDelete2. They don't have the exact details of where the tornado is going to move, which means it could just suddenly move in a different direction.
3. A device called a Weather probe gives information to storm chasers. another one is called Doppler, both of these are very succesful but can be improved.
4. They have learned how tornadoes form, they dont have that much information on where the tornado is going and if it is going to change direction. Storm predictors can only predict storms late and only give the public little time to evacuate.
• Why is it so important to be able to accurately predict tornadoes?
ReplyDeleteIt is really important for people to be able to predict tornadoes because it could save many lives. The difference between a 5-minute and 15 minute tornado warning is immense. Researchers are trying as hard as they can to be able to detect tornadoes as soon as they can so they can make everyone safer.
• What are some of the problems researchers face when trying to predict tornadoes? Why is it so difficult?
Some of the problems are that storms are very unpredictable at times, and big weather systems can easily decrease in size and not be important. If they are trying to figure out what goes on inside a tornado then the tornado can change direction etc.
• What are some of the technologies that have been used to track storms and predict tornadoes? Which ones were unsuccessful, and why? Which technologies do scientists think are going to prove most useful in the future?
Probes that are heavy have been used to find out more. These are set down on the ground in the path of the tornado and then the tornado goes straight over the probes. As they are aero dynamic they are not picked up and then the people go back and collect the data. Most things created now are successful; they think that satellites are going to be very helpful as well as the probes on the ground.
• What have researchers learned about tornadoes so far, and what do they hope to learn in the future? How will technology help?
They have learnt that there is a way to measure them, that even if they are small they can be amazingly destructive. They hope to learn more about how they are formed and where they are formed.
1. So instead of having no time to prepare you have time to hide and take cover and prepare for the worst. If they don't they could be tramped in a house and get killed by shrapnel.
ReplyDelete2. it is hard to find out how the tornado is going to act, it may not always go the same way. The tornado is also hard to tell because it's just wind at first, and then it will turn into a tornado. It will kill innocent people and destroy houses.
3. There is a programme called the Doppler radar which locates and tells you where a tornado is going to form. It gives you a 15 minute head start, a lot better than a 3 minute head straight. The National Weather Service officers around the country tornado support they produce short-term predictions and other information for those in the way of Tornadoes.
4. They learned that they are measured in F5 and can be from 10m to 1 mile wide. Although they already know a lot about tornadoes there is still much to learn.

Delete1) So people can have more warning and have more tie to find a good hiding place and result in less deaths
ReplyDelete2) it is hard to predict how the path of the tornado, because it won't always go in one direction. Tornados are very hard to predict because it start as just harmless wind but within five minutes can turn into a destructive killing tornado, alerting people can become very difficult in the mad rush to broad cast the weather.
3 A machine named a Weather probe gives some very important info to storm chasers. This weather probe was built by Tim Samara and will be . The weather probe is sort of a coney and can measure the tornadoes wind speed, humidity and direction.
4)
A tornado is a violently rotating column of air that is in contact with both the surface of the earth and a cumulonimbus cloud or in rare cases, the base of cumulus cloud. They are often referred to as twisters or cyclones
