  3. What I learnt at the Chinese gardens:
    • I learnt about how racists our country was when the shines came over.
    • How there is not one nail or any glue in the whole building.
    • That there are 380,000 roof tiles. They were all hand made
    • That the rock had been brought in from china.
    • They use no machinery apart from heavy machinery to lift the things that could not be lifted by man power.

-the building doesn't use any nails, it all slots together
-the rocks used in the pile (that represents the mountain of gold in Otago) are a very specific type mined from the bottom of a lake

  6. I learnt that authenticity was very important when the Chinese garden was being built. I learnt that they had actual Chinese builders construct the gardens and that they got rocks from the bottom of a lake and they shipped them to Dunedin.

    - They employed a whole lot of chinese workers to build the gardens.
    - They spent a whole lot of money on special rocks that were imported from Shanghai.

-they sent everything from china including the rocks the wood and everything. it was imported around shanghai and was assembled there as well.

-they had to make it by hand and everything was hand carved in china all made using traditional methods.

-there was many accusation on the chinese and many bad rules against them like they werent alllowed they werent allowed to get new zealand residensy and it was very expensive to get into NZ.
